Damn January took forever! It really felt like it lasted at least 6 months.

January was a rough month. After spending Christmas at my sister’s house I came home with the flu. I was down for over a week! And by the time I recovered, I was leaving with my sister to take one of my niblings on a birthday trip to Disneyland! We had a wonderful, and exhausting, time. But I came home and had just enough time to catch up on laundry and run a few errands before I was back at her house. I stayed for several days to help out while she recovered from surgery. And when I left, the kids sent me home with a stomach bug that had me down for a few days… So all in all I spent about half of January sick and the other half socializing. Which is a lot for me. I only have a couple of plans for February and that’s perfect! I’m excited to spend more time with Sheila and really put in some work on our trailer.

So far, I got the roof resealed, which was urgent, and treated the water damage. The next big project is to replace the ceiling panels. Something I know nothing about but am excited to learn! You can follow my progress here!

As for Sheila, I am so fortunate to have an amazing sitter for her when I’m gone. I can leave knowing she’s very loved and in good hands. If you’re new here, Sheila is a nervous girl. She’s fear-reactive around other dogs and sometimes people. The list of things that scare her is lengthy. I couldn’t send her to regular boarding when I had work trips so when I found our sitter it really was a life saver! Sheila has been staying with her now for about 4 years and she has made so much progress being around selective dogs and people. She is always thrilled to go to her friend’s house and I love that so much!

But we’re back home now and we need to get into a routine! Our training has been neglected over the last couple of months between holidays, travel, and being sick. I know she needs the mental stimulation so we’re going to start something new. I initially wanted to work through the 101 Dog Tricks book but I was unorganized and life got in the way. So my goal this year is to teach Sheila 25 tricks in 2025!

We also have a quick overnight trip with my bestie planned next week! I know I said I was over socializing but this doesn’t count. Her and I will just relax in the desert, enjoy the sun, and let our dogs play. Sheila is officially friends with her dog Rogue so it makes our trips so much more enjoyable!

So that’s the January update! I’ve been MIA so long but I’m back and excited to continue sharing our life with you!
