Recently, we were sent a sample of Dr. Marty freeze dried raw to review! I am a raw feeder when possible but it’s hard on the road so I was so excited to give this a try! Scroll down for a video review!
Why freeze dried raw?
I believe that feeding fresh food is the best and most natural diet we can provide for our dogs. The problem for me is fresh food is hard to travel with. I only have a cooler and it doesn’t have enough space to hold food for me and Sheila.
The next best option is shelf-stable, minimally processed food, like air-dried, dehydrated, and freeze dried! Unlike highly processed kibble, these foods retain more of their nutritional value, are more palatable, and are easier to digest.
What I like about Dr Marty freeze dried raw
Before reviewing this product I was familiar with the Dr Marty brand. It’s a reputable company whose quality I trust.
- The ingredients in this food are simple and recognizable. No wheat, corn, or soy. No fillers. No artificial preservatives. It’s high in protein and low in carbs.
- It’s high in protein and low in carbs. 81% of the ingredients are meat! The rest is veggies, fruits, and seeds.
- Just like with frozen raw, your dog will have smaller and firmer poops. Great for naturally expressing anal glands and less for you to pick up.
- Sheila isn’t a picky eater so of course she loves it. But freeze dried food in general is very popular among picky dogs!
- It’s easy to use in puzzles, treat dispensing toys, or used in training
What I don’t like about Dr Marty freeze dried raw
No food is perfect, and while I don’t have many complaints here are a few things I would change.
- Small packaging – This food only comes in a small bag at this time. For Sheila (30lbs) each bag lasted one week. I’d prefer buying one large bag.
- Price – Freeze dried raw tends to be more expensive than dry foods and sometimes frozen raw.This food isn’t crazy expensive but if you have a large dog it may be on the high end of your budget.
Dr Marty dog food review
All in all, I really recommend this food! Sheila loved it and did so well on it. There were no digestive issues and her poops were nice and small. This is one of my favorite foods while traveling. If frozen raw isn’t feasible because you’re on the road or have minimal freezer space definitely check out Dr Marty!
